Arnold Naudain
Arnold Naudain (January 6, 1790 – January 4, 1872) was an American physician and politician from Delaware. He was a member of the Federalist Party and later the National Republican Party.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Arnold Naudain was born on January 6, 1790, in Dagsboro, Delaware. He pursued classical studies and graduated from Princeton University in 1806. He then studied medicine and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1810.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
After completing his education, Naudain began practicing medicine in Wilmington, Delaware. He gained a reputation as a skilled physician and was well-respected in his community.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Naudain's political career began when he was elected to the Delaware House of Representatives in 1823. He served in the state legislature until 1826. In 1829, he was elected to the United States Senate as a member of the National Republican Party, serving from March 4, 1830, to June 16, 1836. During his time in the Senate, he was known for his support of internal improvements and a protective tariff.
Later Life and Death[edit | edit source]
After leaving the Senate, Naudain returned to his medical practice in Wilmington. He continued to be active in public affairs and was a delegate to the Delaware Constitutional Convention in 1852. Arnold Naudain died on January 4, 1872, and was buried in the Old Swedes Churchyard in Wilmington.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Naudain's contributions to both medicine and politics in Delaware are remembered as significant. His work in the Senate and his medical practice left a lasting impact on his community.
