Arthur Caplan
Arthur L. Caplan is an American bioethicist and the Drs. William F. and Virginia Connolly Mitty Professor of Bioethics at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine. He is also the founding director of the Division of Medical Ethics at NYU Langone Health.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Arthur Caplan was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He earned his undergraduate degree from Brandeis University and his Ph.D. in the history and philosophy of science from Columbia University.
Career[edit | edit source]
Caplan has held numerous academic positions throughout his career. Before joining NYU, he was the Emmanuel and Robert Hart Professor of Bioethics and the chair of the Department of Medical Ethics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. He has also served on the faculty at the University of Minnesota, the University of Pittsburgh, and Columbia University.
