Behçet Uz (1893 – 19 May 1986) was a prominent Turkish pediatrician and politician. He is best known for his contributions to pediatrics in Turkey and for founding the Behçet Uz Children's Hospital in İzmir.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Behçet Uz was born in 1893 in Denizli, then part of the Ottoman Empire. He completed his primary and secondary education in Denizli before moving to İstanbul to study medicine. Uz graduated from the Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine in 1919.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
After completing his medical education, Behçet Uz specialized in pediatrics. He worked in various hospitals in Istanbul before moving to İzmir. In 1927, he founded the Behçet Uz Children's Hospital, which became one of the leading pediatric hospitals in Turkey. His work significantly improved the healthcare services available to children in the region.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
In addition to his medical career, Behçet Uz was also active in politics. He served as a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and held various ministerial positions, including the Minister of Health and the Minister of Public Works. His political efforts were focused on improving public health and infrastructure in Turkey.
