Benno Chajes
Benno Chajes (1876–1938) was a prominent German physician and Zionist leader. He played a significant role in the early 20th-century Zionist movement and made notable contributions to the field of medicine.

Benno Chajes was born in 1876 in Germany. He pursued his medical studies at the University of Berlin, where he earned his medical degree. During his time at the university, Chajes became actively involved in the Zionist movement, which sought to establish a Jewish homeland in Palestine.

After completing his education, Chajes worked as a physician in Berlin. He specialized in internal medicine and became well-respected in his field. Chajes was known for his dedication to patient care and his contributions to medical research.
Zionist Activities[edit | edit source]
Chajes was deeply committed to the Zionist cause. He was a member of the Zionist Organization and worked closely with other prominent Zionist leaders, including Theodor Herzl and Chaim Weizmann. Chajes believed that the establishment of a Jewish state was essential for the survival and prosperity of the Jewish people.
In addition to his work with the Zionist Organization, Chajes was involved in various other Zionist initiatives. He was a founding member of the Jewish National Fund, an organization dedicated to purchasing land in Palestine for Jewish settlement. Chajes also played a key role in the establishment of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which aimed to promote higher education and research in the Jewish homeland.
