Bernard Dujon
Bernard Dujon is a former West Indies cricketer who played as a wicket-keeper and right-handed batsman. Born on August 28, 1956, in Kingston, Jamaica, Dujon is considered one of the finest wicket-keepers to have played for the West Indies during the 1980s, a period when the team dominated international cricket.
Dujon made his Test debut for the West Indies against Australia in 1981 and quickly established himself as the first-choice wicket-keeper. Over his career, he played in 81 Test matches, scoring over 3,000 runs at an average of around 31.94, including five centuries and 16 half-centuries. His highest Test score of 139 came against Australia in 1984. In addition to his batting prowess, Dujon was an exceptional wicket-keeper, effecting 267 dismissals in Test cricket, comprising 270 catches and 5 stumpings.
In One Day International (ODI) cricket, Dujon represented the West Indies in 169 matches, scoring over 1,900 runs and securing 204 dismissals behind the stumps. His ODI career included participating in several Cricket World Cups, where he contributed significantly to the team's performances.
Dujon's playing style was characterized by his graceful batting and agile wicket-keeping. He was particularly renowned for his acrobatic catches and quick stumpings, making him a crucial member of the West Indies team during his tenure. His partnership with legendary fast bowlers such as Malcolm Marshall, Michael Holding, Joel Garner, and Curtly Ambrose was instrumental in the West Indies' dominance in world cricket.
After retiring from international cricket in 1991, Dujon remained involved in the sport, taking up roles as a coach and cricket commentator. He has also been involved in cricket administration in Jamaica, contributing to the development of the game in his home country.
