Bibic
Bibic is a national charity in the United Kingdom that offers practical help to families caring for children with conditions like autism, cerebral palsy, Down's syndrome, developmental delay, brain injury, and specific learning difficulties like ADHD, dyslexia, and dyspraxia. It provides assessments and therapy programs for children and young people aged 6 months to 18 years.
History[edit | edit source]
Bibic was founded in 1972 by Margaret Powell and Keith Pennock, who were both working at the time with children with cerebral palsy. They were inspired by the work of András Pető, a Hungarian professor of pedagogy, who developed a method of teaching and therapy for children with motor disorders known as Conductive Education.
Services[edit | edit source]
Bibic provides a range of services to support children and young people with neurological and genetic conditions. These include:
- Assessments: Bibic's team of therapists conduct a detailed assessment of the child's needs and abilities. This includes an evaluation of their physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.
- Therapy Programs: Based on the assessment, a personalized therapy program is developed for the child. This may include exercises to improve motor skills, strategies to support cognitive development, and techniques to manage behavior and emotional well-being.
- Family Support: Bibic also provides support and advice to families, helping them to understand their child's condition and to implement the therapy program at home.
Funding[edit | edit source]
Bibic relies on donations, fundraising events, and grants to fund its services. It does not receive any government funding and is entirely dependent on the generosity of its supporters.
