Bimola Kumari was born in Guwahati, Assam, India. She completed her early education in Guwahati before pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. She later obtained her Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Internal Medicine from the same institution.

After completing her MD, Bimola Kumari joined the faculty at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital as an assistant professor. Her dedication to teaching and research quickly earned her a reputation as a leading educator in the field. She was promoted to associate professor and later to full professor.
