Brent Christiensen

Brent Christensen is an American diplomat who has served in various capacities within the United States Department of State. He is best known for his role as the Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), a position he held from 2018 to 2021.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Brent Christensen was born in the United States. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chinese language and literature from Brigham Young University. He later obtained a Master of Arts degree in East Asian Studies from George Washington University.

Career[edit | edit source]

Christensen joined the United States Foreign Service in 1983. Over the course of his career, he has held various positions both domestically and internationally. His assignments have included postings in Beijing, Hong Kong, and Taipei.

American Institute in Taiwan[edit | edit source]

In 2018, Christensen was appointed as the Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), the de facto embassy of the United States in Taiwan. During his tenure, he focused on strengthening U.S.-Taiwan relations, promoting economic and security cooperation, and supporting Taiwan's participation in the international community.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Brent Christensen is married and has children. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and has a deep understanding of East Asian culture and politics.
