British isles
British Isles is a geographical term which includes two main islands, Great Britain and Ireland, and numerous smaller islands. The British Isles are located off the north-western coast of continental Europe. The term is often used to describe a collection of islands with shared cultural and historical ties.

The British Isles comprise of more than 6,000 islands, the largest of which are Great Britain and Ireland. Other significant islands include the Isle of Wight, the Isle of Man, the Hebrides, the Orkney Islands, and the Shetland Islands. The total area of the British Isles is approximately 315,159 square kilometres.

The history of the British Isles is varied and complex, with each of the main islands having its own unique historical narrative. The British Isles have been inhabited for over 30,000 years, with the earliest known human presence dating back to the Paleolithic era. The islands have been the site of numerous important historical events, including the Roman conquest of Britain, the Norman Conquest, and the Industrial Revolution.
