Procedure

Positioning the patient, usually lying on their side with knees drawn up to the chest or sitting and leaning forward. 2. Cleaning the lower back area with an antiseptic solution. 3. Numbing the area with a local anesthetic. 4. Inserting a needle between two lumbar vertebrae to reach the CSF in the spinal canal. 5. Collecting the CSF in sterile vials. 6. Removing the needle and applying a bandage over the puncture site.

Risks and Complications
