Caleb Rodney Layton (September 8, 1851 – November 11, 1930) was an American physician and politician from Georgetown, Delaware. He was a member of the Republican Party who served as a U.S. Representative from Delaware.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Caleb R. Layton was born in Little Creek Hundred, Delaware, on September 8, 1851. He was the son of Samuel H. Layton and Sarah Ann Rodney Layton. He attended the common schools and later graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1876.

Medical career[edit | edit source]

After completing his medical education, Layton began practicing medicine in Georgetown, Delaware. He became a prominent physician in the area and was known for his dedication to his patients and the community.

Political career[edit | edit source]

Layton's political career began when he was elected as a member of the Delaware House of Representatives in 1894. He served in this capacity until 1896. He was also a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1896.

In 1918, Layton was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Delaware's at-large congressional district. He served in the Sixty-sixth and Sixty-seventh Congresses from March 4, 1919, to March 3, 1923. During his tenure, he was known for his work on health-related legislation and his advocacy for veterans' benefits.

Later life and death[edit | edit source]

After his congressional service, Layton returned to his medical practice in Georgetown. He continued to be active in the community until his death on November 11, 1930. He was interred in the Union Cemetery in Georgetown.

Caleb R. Layton is remembered for his contributions to both medicine and politics in Delaware. His dedication to public service and his community left a lasting impact on those he served.
