Canadian Neonatal Network

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Canadian Neonatal Network (CNN) is a collaborative network of neonatologists and health care professionals from across Canada. The network was established in 1995 with the aim of improving the care of neonates and their families. The CNN collects and analyzes data from neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) across the country, providing valuable information for research, quality improvement, and health care planning.

History[edit | edit source]

The Canadian Neonatal Network was established in 1995 by a group of neonatologists who recognized the need for a national database to track outcomes and practices in neonatal care. The network has grown to include more than 30 NICUs across Canada and has contributed to numerous research studies and improvements in neonatal care.

Objectives[edit | edit source]

The primary objectives of the CNN are to improve the health and quality of life of neonates and their families. This is achieved through the collection and analysis of data, research, and the promotion of evidence-based practices. The network also aims to facilitate collaboration and communication among health care professionals in the field of neonatology.

Data Collection and Research[edit | edit source]

The CNN collects data on all infants admitted to participating NICUs. This data includes information on the infant's health, treatment, and outcomes. The network uses this data to conduct research and identify trends in neonatal care. The results of this research are used to inform practice guidelines and policy decisions.

Impact[edit | edit source]

The work of the Canadian Neonatal Network has had a significant impact on neonatal care in Canada. The network's research has led to improvements in the treatment of premature infants and has contributed to a decrease in neonatal mortality rates. The CNN has also played a key role in the development of national standards for neonatal care.
