- Captain Cook is located on the western coast of the Big Island, approximately 12 miles south of Kailua-Kona. The city is known for its lush vegetation, coffee farms, and historical sites.

- The city is named after Captain James Cook, the British explorer who first landed on the island in 1778. The Captain Cook Monument located in Kealakekua Bay marks the approximate location of his arrival.
