Carigara, Leyte
Carigara, Leyte is a municipality in the province of Leyte, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines. It is situated on the northern coast of Leyte island and is known for its rich history, cultural heritage, and natural beauty.

Carigara was one of the earliest settlements in the Philippines to be evangelized by the Spanish colonizers. The town was established as a mission by the Augustinians in 1595, and the Jesuits took over in 1596. The Franciscans administered the mission from 1643 to 1737, and then the Augustinians returned and remained until the end of the Spanish regime in 1898.

Carigara is located on the northern coast of Leyte, bordered by the municipalities of Barugo to the east, Capoocan to the west, and Jaro and Pastrana to the south. The town is characterized by flat and fertile agricultural land, with a coastline that offers abundant marine resources.

The economy of Carigara is primarily based on agriculture, with rice, corn, and coconut as the main crops. Fishing is also a significant source of livelihood due to the town's coastal location. Carigara is home to several public and private schools, including the Carigara School of Fisheries, which offers vocational courses in fisheries technology. The town also has a branch of the Eastern Visayas State University, which provides higher education programs in various fields.
