- Carthage is a village located in the Town of Wilna in Jefferson County, New York, United States. The village is named after the historic city of Carthage, Tunisia. It is situated in the northern part of the state, not far from the Black River. The population was 3,747 at the 2010 census.

- Carthage was incorporated in 1841, having been settled in 1798 by pioneers who recognized the potential of the area's natural resources. The village played a significant role in the War of 1812 and the American Civil War due to its strategic location and resources.
