Castello di Amorosa is a winery located near Calistoga, California in the Napa Valley. The winery is known for its authentically styled, 13th-century Tuscan castle and its high-quality wines. The castle was constructed by Dario Sattui, a fourth-generation winemaker and owner of V. Sattui Winery.

History[edit | edit source]

The idea for Castello di Amorosa began in the early 1990s when Dario Sattui decided to build a winery that would reflect his passion for medieval architecture and winemaking. Construction of the castle started in 1994 and took over 15 years to complete. The castle was built using authentic materials and techniques from the 13th century, including hand-chiseled stones, hand-forged iron, and ancient bricks.

Architecture[edit | edit source]

Castello di Amorosa is a 121,000 square foot castle with 107 rooms spread across eight levels, both above and below ground. The castle features a drawbridge, a moat, defensive towers, a courtyard, a chapel, a great hall, and a torture chamber. The architecture is a faithful representation of medieval Tuscan castles, complete with frescoes, ironwork, and period-appropriate furnishings.

Winery[edit | edit source]

The winery at Castello di Amorosa produces a variety of wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Sangiovese. The vineyards are located in the Napa Valley AVA, which is known for its ideal climate and soil conditions for growing high-quality grapes. The winery uses traditional winemaking techniques combined with modern technology to produce its wines.

Tours and Tastings[edit | edit source]

Castello di Amorosa offers a range of tours and tastings for visitors. These include guided tours of the castle, wine tastings, and food pairings. The tours provide an in-depth look at the castle's architecture, history, and winemaking process. Special events and private tastings are also available.

Events[edit | edit source]

The castle hosts various events throughout the year, including wine release parties, medieval-themed dinners, and seasonal celebrations. These events often feature live music, gourmet food, and, of course, wine.
