Center for Sex Positive Culture (CSPC), formerly known as The Wet Spot, is a non-profit, membership-based organization located in Seattle, Washington. It was founded in 1999 with the mission of providing a safe and welcoming environment for exploring sexuality and sex positive culture. The CSPC aims to educate and facilitate consensual and positive sexual interactions and relationships. It is known for hosting a variety of events, workshops, and discussions related to sexuality, consent, BDSM, and polyamory, among other topics.

History[edit | edit source]

The Center for Sex Positive Culture was established in 1999 by a group of sex-positive activists and educators in Seattle. The organization was initially named The Wet Spot, a playful nod to its focus on sexuality and fluid sexual expressions. Over the years, the CSPC has grown significantly, both in membership numbers and in the breadth of programs it offers. In 2010, the organization rebranded itself as the Center for Sex Positive Culture to better reflect its mission and the diversity of its community and activities.

Mission and Activities[edit | edit source]

The mission of the CSPC is to promote a sex-positive culture where all consensual adult sexual activities are respected and celebrated. The center achieves this through education, advocacy, and the creation of spaces where individuals can explore their sexuality in a safe, consensual, and non-judgmental environment.

The CSPC hosts a wide range of events, including but not limited to:

  • Educational workshops on topics such as safe sex, BDSM practices, consent, and relationship dynamics.
  • Social gatherings and discussion groups for specific communities, including the LGBTQ+ community, kink enthusiasts, and polyamorous individuals.
  • Play parties and other adult-oriented social events that provide a safe space for consensual sexual exploration.

Membership[edit | edit source]

Membership to the Center for Sex Positive Culture is open to adults over the age of 18 who agree to the organization's code of conduct and ethics, which emphasizes consent, respect, and confidentiality. Members enjoy access to CSPC events, workshops, and community spaces.

Impact and Reception[edit | edit source]

The CSPC has played a significant role in fostering a sex-positive community in Seattle and beyond. It has been recognized for its contributions to sexual health and education, as well as for its efforts to create inclusive and safe spaces for sexual exploration. The organization has also faced challenges, including navigating legal and societal norms around sexuality and adult entertainment.

Controversies[edit | edit source]

Like many organizations dealing with sexuality, the CSPC has encountered controversies, particularly regarding its events and membership policies. However, it has consistently worked to address concerns through open dialogue and policy adjustments to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all members.
