Charles Morehead (physician)
Charles Morehead (1807–1882) was a prominent physician and medical educator in India during the 19th century. He is best known for his contributions to the establishment of the Grant Medical College in Mumbai (then Bombay) and for his work in the field of tropical medicine.

Charles Morehead was born in 1807. He pursued his medical education in Edinburgh, where he graduated with a degree in medicine. His early education laid a strong foundation for his future contributions to medical science and education.
Career in India[edit | edit source]
In 1835, Morehead moved to India, where he initially worked as an assistant surgeon in the East India Company. His dedication and expertise soon led to his appointment as the first Principal of the Grant Medical College in Mumbai in 1845. Under his leadership, the college became one of the premier medical institutions in India.
