Charles T. Meide

Charles T. Meide is an American marine archaeologist and the current Director of the Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program (LAMP) at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum in St. Augustine, Florida. He is known for his extensive work in underwater archaeology, particularly in the waters off the coast of Florida.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Meide was born and raised in the United States. He developed an interest in archaeology at a young age, which led him to pursue a career in the field. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Anthropology from Florida State University, and later obtained a Master's degree in Maritime History and Nautical Archaeology from East Carolina University. He completed his Ph.D. in Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.

Career[edit | edit source]

Meide began his career as a field archaeologist, working on various terrestrial and underwater archaeological projects. In 2002, he joined the Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program as a marine archaeologist. He was appointed as the Director of LAMP in 2007.

Under his leadership, LAMP has conducted numerous underwater archaeological investigations, including the discovery and excavation of several historic shipwrecks. Meide's research interests include maritime history, ship construction, and the archaeology of shipwrecks and maritime landscapes.

Meide is married and resides in St. Augustine, Florida. When not conducting archaeological research, he enjoys sailing and diving.
