Charles Tannock
Charles Tannock (born 25 September 1957) is a British psychiatrist and former Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the London region. He is a member of the Conservative Party and has been involved in various political and medical fields throughout his career.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Charles Tannock was born in Aldershot, Hampshire, England. He attended Wellington College and later studied at Balliol College, Oxford, where he earned a degree in Physiology. He then pursued a medical degree at Guy's Hospital Medical School, now part of King's College London.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
Tannock trained as a psychiatrist and worked in various hospitals in London. He became a consultant psychiatrist and was involved in both clinical practice and academic research. His medical expertise includes areas such as mental health, neuropsychiatry, and psychopharmacology.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Member of the European Parliament[edit | edit source]
Charles Tannock was first elected as an MEP in 1999, representing the London region. He served in the European Parliament until 2019. During his tenure, he was a member of the European People's Party (EPP) group and held various positions, including Vice-Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee and member of the Subcommittee on Human Rights.

Tannock has been known for his strong stance on human rights, foreign policy, and European integration. He has been an advocate for the rights of LGBT individuals and has supported various initiatives aimed at promoting democracy and rule of law in non-EU countries.
