Christmas stamp
A Christmas stamp is a postage stamp with a Christmas theme, intended for use on seasonal greeting cards and other mail sent during the Christmas season. These stamps are often issued by postal administrations around the world and are popular among stamp collectors.
History[edit | edit source]
The first Christmas stamp was issued by Canada in 1898. Although it was not specifically intended as a Christmas stamp, it bore the inscription "XMAS 1898". The first official Christmas stamps were issued by Austria in 1937.
Design[edit | edit source]
Christmas stamps typically feature iconic Christmas imagery such as Santa Claus, Christmas trees, nativity scenes, and snowflakes. The designs often reflect the cultural traditions of the issuing country.
Usage[edit | edit source]
These stamps are primarily used for sending Christmas cards and other holiday mail. They are usually issued in the months leading up to Christmas to accommodate the increased volume of mail during this period.
Collecting[edit | edit source]
Christmas stamps are a popular theme among philatelists. Many collectors focus on acquiring Christmas stamps from around the world, often specializing in a particular country or era.
