Chua Jui Meng (born 22 October 1943) is a Malaysian politician and former Minister of Health. He is a member of the People's Justice Party (PKR) and has held various positions in the Malaysian government and political parties throughout his career.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Chua Jui Meng was born in Muar, Johor, Malaysia. He received his early education at the High School Muar before pursuing higher education at the University of Singapore, where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree.

Political Career[edit | edit source]

Chua began his political career as a member of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He was first elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bakri constituency in the 1986 general election.

Minister of Health[edit | edit source]

Chua served as the Minister of Health from 1995 to 2004. During his tenure, he implemented various healthcare reforms and policies aimed at improving the Malaysian healthcare system. He was instrumental in the establishment of several new hospitals and the upgrading of existing healthcare facilities.

Defection to PKR[edit | edit source]

In 2009, Chua left the MCA and joined the People's Justice Party (PKR), citing dissatisfaction with the leadership and direction of the MCA. He has since been an active member of PKR and has held various positions within the party.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Chua Jui Meng is married and has three children. He is known for his contributions to the healthcare sector and his advocacy for political reform in Malaysia.
