David Haslam (physician)

David Haslam is a prominent physician and medical administrator from the United Kingdom. He is best known for his role as the former chair of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), a position he held from 2013 to 2019.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

David Haslam was born in the United Kingdom. He pursued his medical education at the University of Cambridge, where he graduated with a degree in medicine.

Career[edit | edit source]

After completing his education, Haslam began his career as a general practitioner (GP) in Cambridgeshire. He served in this role for several years, gaining a reputation for his dedication to patient care and his expertise in the field of medicine.

In 2001, Haslam was appointed as the President of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), a role he held until 2004. During his tenure, he was instrumental in implementing several key initiatives aimed at improving the quality of care provided by GPs in the UK.

In 2013, Haslam was appointed as the chair of NICE, an organization responsible for providing national guidance and advice to improve health and social care. During his tenure, he oversaw the development and implementation of numerous guidelines and quality standards that have had a significant impact on healthcare in the UK.

In recognition of his contributions to the field of medicine, Haslam has received several awards and honours. He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2004 for his services to medicine and healthcare.

Haslam is married and has two children. He is known for his passion for music and is an accomplished pianist.
