Davis County is a county in the northern part of the U.S. state of Utah. As of the 2020 census, the population was 362,679, making it the third-most populous county in Utah. The county seat is Farmington, and the largest city is Layton. The county was created in 1850 and was named for Daniel C. Davis, a captain in the Mormon Battalion.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Davis County is part of the Ogden-Clearfield, UT Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is bordered by the Great Salt Lake to the west, Weber County to the north, Morgan County to the east, and Salt Lake County to the south. The county has a total area of 634 square miles, of which 299 square miles is land and 335 square miles (52.8%) is water.

Davis County was established in 1850 by the Utah Territory legislature. The area was originally inhabited by the Shoshone and Ute tribes. The first European settlers were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who arrived in the mid-19th century.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
As of the 2020 census, there were 362,679 people, 113,000 households, and 90,000 families residing in the county. The population density was 1,213 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with smaller percentages of African American, Native American, Asian, and other races.
Economy[edit | edit source]
The economy of Davis County is diverse, with significant contributions from sectors such as defense, healthcare, education, and retail. The county is home to Hill Air Force Base, one of the largest employers in the state. Other major employers include Davis School District, Intermountain Healthcare, and various retail chains.
Education[edit | edit source]
Davis County is served by the Davis School District, which operates numerous elementary, middle, and high schools. Higher education institutions in the county include Weber State University's Davis campus and Davis Technical College.
Transportation[edit | edit source]
Davis County is well-connected by several major highways, including Interstate 15, which runs north-south through the county. Public transportation is provided by the Utah Transit Authority (UTA), which operates bus and commuter rail services.
