Debbie Wasserman Schultz is an American politician who has been serving as the United States Representative for Florida's 23rd congressional district since 2005. The district, numbered as the 20th district from 2005 to 2013, includes parts of Broward County and Miami-Dade County. A member of the Democratic Party, Wasserman Schultz was first elected to Congress in 2004.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz was born on September 27, 1966, in Forest Hills, Queens, New York City. She moved to Long Island during her childhood and later relocated to Florida where she attended the University of Florida. At the University of Florida, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1988 and a Master of Arts in 1990, both in political science.

Wasserman Schultz's political career began in the Florida state legislature, where she served from 1992 to 2004. She was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives and later moved to the Florida Senate in 2000. In 2004, Wasserman Schultz was elected to the United States House of Representatives, succeeding Peter Deutsch.
