Denton
Denton is a city located in the U.S. state of Texas. It is the county seat of Denton County. With a population of 141,541 as of 2019, it is the 24th most populous city in Texas and the 196th most populous city in the United States. Denton is known for its active music life, the North Texas State Fair and Rodeo, and the University of North Texas.

Denton was established in 1846, shortly after Texas became a state. It was named after John B. Denton, a preacher, lawyer, and soldier who was killed in the Indian Wars. The city was incorporated in 1866 and grew rapidly when the Texas and Pacific Railway arrived in 1881.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Denton is located in the northern part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, approximately 35 miles north of Dallas and 38 miles west of Fort Worth. The city is situated on the eastern edge of the Great Plains and is surrounded by rolling hills and prairies.

The economy of Denton is diverse and robust, with major sectors including education, healthcare, government, and retail. The city is home to two major universities, the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University, which together employ over 12,000 people.
