Douwe Egberts is a Dutch coffee company that was founded in 1753 by Egbert Douwes. It is known for its high-quality coffee, tea, and hot chocolate products. Douwe Egberts is currently a subsidiary of JDE Peet's, a leading global coffee and tea company.

History[edit | edit source]

Douwe Egberts has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1753. Egbert Douwes, a small grocer in Joure, Netherlands, started selling coffee and tea to his customers. The business grew steadily, and in 1780, Egbert's eldest son, Douwe Egberts, joined the company. Under Douwe's leadership, the company expanded its product range and established a strong reputation for quality.

In the 19th century, Douwe Egberts introduced innovative packaging solutions, such as sealed packages and vacuum-sealed cans, to preserve the freshness of its coffee. These advancements helped the company gain popularity not only in the Netherlands but also internationally.

Over the years, Douwe Egberts continued to expand its product offerings and distribution channels. It introduced various coffee blends, including its signature "Aroma Rood" blend, which became a household name in the Netherlands. The company also ventured into the production of tea and hot chocolate, further diversifying its product portfolio.

In 1978, Douwe Egberts merged with another Dutch coffee company, Van Nelle, forming the Douwe Egberts Van Nelle Group. This merger strengthened the company's position in the global coffee market and allowed it to tap into new markets.

In 2013, Douwe Egberts became a part of the JDE Peet's group, following a merger between the coffee divisions of Mondelez International and D.E Master Blenders 1753. JDE Peet's is now one of the largest coffee and tea companies in the world, with Douwe Egberts as one of its prominent brands.

Products[edit | edit source]

Douwe Egberts offers a wide range of coffee, tea, and hot chocolate products. Its coffee selection includes various blends, such as Aroma Rood, Excellent, and Mocca. The company also offers single-origin coffees sourced from different regions around the world.

In addition to coffee, Douwe Egberts produces a variety of tea blends, including black tea, green tea, and herbal infusions. Its tea products are known for their rich flavors and high-quality ingredients.

For those who prefer hot chocolate, Douwe Egberts offers a range of indulgent hot chocolate mixes. These mixes are made with premium cocoa and are perfect for creating a comforting and delicious hot chocolate beverage.
