Dug's Special Mission
Dug's Special Mission is a 2009 animated short film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is a spin-off from the feature film Up and features the character Dug, a talking dog. The short was directed by Ronnie del Carmen and was included as a bonus feature on the Up home media release.
Plot[edit | edit source]
The story takes place before Dug meets Carl Fredricksen and Russell in Up. Dug is on a mission to capture the exotic bird Kevin for his master, Charles Muntz. However, Dug's fellow dogs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma, are not fond of him and give him a series of tasks designed to keep him away from the bird. Despite their efforts, Dug's good-natured clumsiness inadvertently helps him succeed in his mission.

- Dug: A golden retriever who can speak using a special collar.
- Alpha: The leader of the dog pack.
- Beta: A Rottweiler and one of Alpha's subordinates.
- Gamma: A Bulldog and another of Alpha's subordinates.
- Kevin: A large, colorful bird that Dug is tasked with capturing.
- Charles Muntz: The antagonist of Up and the master of the dog pack.

Dug's Special Mission was directed by Ronnie del Carmen, who also worked as a story supervisor on Up. The short film was produced by Pixar Animation Studios, known for their high-quality animation and storytelling. The voice cast includes Bob Peterson as Dug, Delroy Lindo as Beta, and Jerome Ranft as Gamma.

The short film was released on November 10, 2009, as part of the Up DVD and Blu-ray release. It was also included in the Pixar Short Films Collection, Volume 2.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Dug's Special Mission received positive reviews for its humor and heartwarming story. Fans of Up appreciated the additional backstory for the character of Dug.
