Egerton University is a public university located in Njoro, near Nakuru, in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. It is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in Kenya, established in 1939 as Egerton Farm School by Lord Maurice Egerton of Tatton. Initially, its primary focus was to offer agricultural training to the white settler farming community. However, over the years, Egerton University has evolved into a comprehensive institution offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various disciplines, including Agriculture, Education, Engineering, Natural Sciences, Health Sciences, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

Egerton University's history dates back to 1939 when it was founded as Egerton Farm School. The institution was named after its benefactor, Lord Maurice Egerton of Tatton, who donated land for its establishment. It started as an agricultural school offering diploma courses to the colonial settlers. In 1950, the school was upgraded to Egerton Agricultural College, offering higher diploma programs. The transformation into a fully-fledged university came in 1987, following the government's policy to increase access to higher education in Kenya. This marked the beginning of its expansion and diversification of academic programs.
