Elliott S. Fisher

Elliott S. Fisher is a prominent health policy researcher and physician in the United States. He is best known for his work on health care delivery system reform, including the development of the concept of accountable care organizations (ACOs). Fisher is currently a professor of medicine at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, where he also serves as director of the Center for Population Health.

Fisher was born and raised in the United States. He completed his undergraduate studies at Harvard University, where he majored in biology. He then went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Following his medical training, Fisher completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Washington.

Fisher began his career as a practicing physician, specializing in internal medicine. However, his interest in health policy led him to pursue a career in research. He joined the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice in the early 1990s, where he has remained ever since.

At the Dartmouth Institute, Fisher has conducted groundbreaking research on health care delivery systems. He is perhaps best known for his work on accountable care organizations, a concept he helped to develop. ACOs are groups of doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers who come together voluntarily to give coordinated high-quality care to their Medicare patients.

Fisher's research has also focused on health care quality and health care costs. He has published numerous studies on these topics in prestigious medical journals, and his work has been widely cited by other researchers.

Fisher is married and has two children. He resides in Hanover, New Hampshire, where the Dartmouth Institute is located.
