From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Employer is an individual or organization that hires and pays for the services of workers. The employer is responsible for providing a safe and healthy work environment, and for complying with labor and employment laws. Employers can be private businesses, non-profit organizations, or government entities.

Responsibilities of an Employer[edit | edit source]

Employers have a number of responsibilities to their employees. These include:

  • Providing a safe and healthy work environment
  • Complying with labor and employment laws
  • Paying employees for their work
  • Providing benefits, such as health insurance and retirement plans
  • Treating employees fairly and without discrimination

Rights of an Employer[edit | edit source]

Employers also have certain rights, such as:

  • The right to hire and fire employees
  • The right to set work hours and pay rates
  • The right to determine the nature of the work to be performed
  • The right to control the manner in which work is performed

Employer and Employee Relationship[edit | edit source]

The relationship between an employer and an employee is governed by the terms of the employment contract, if one exists, and by labor and employment laws. These laws establish minimum standards for wages, hours, and working conditions, and protect workers from unfair treatment and discrimination.
