Esperanza Cabral

Esperanza Cabral is a prominent medical doctor and public servant in the Philippines. She served as the Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Health (DOH) under the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Esperanza Cabral was born and raised in the Philippines. She pursued her undergraduate studies at the University of the Philippines (UP), where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Pre-Medicine. She then proceeded to the UP College of Medicine, where she obtained her Doctor of Medicine degree.

Medical Career[edit | edit source]

After completing her medical studies, Cabral served as a physician in various hospitals in the Philippines. She specialized in cardiology, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions of the heart and blood vessels.

Public Service[edit | edit source]

In 2009, Cabral was appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. She spearheaded various programs aimed at alleviating poverty and improving the welfare of the Filipino people. In 2010, she was appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Health. During her tenure, she implemented various health reforms to improve the healthcare system in the Philippines.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Cabral's contributions to the medical field and public service have been widely recognized. She has received numerous awards and accolades for her work, including the Outstanding Woman in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) award in 1999.
