Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards
Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards (FCLB) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of high standards for chiropractic licensure and the regulation of the chiropractic profession. The FCLB's primary mission is to protect the public by promoting excellence in chiropractic regulation through service to its member boards.
History[edit | edit source]
The Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards was established in 1926, with the goal of providing a platform for the various state chiropractic licensing boards to share best practices, develop uniform standards for chiropractic licensure, and facilitate the exchange of disciplinary actions among jurisdictions to enhance public protection.
Function[edit | edit source]
The FCLB serves as a central resource for its member boards, which are comprised of chiropractic licensing authorities from various states, provinces, and countries. The organization's activities include:
- Developing model legislation and regulations for the practice of chiropractic.
- Administering the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) exams to chiropractic candidates.
- Maintaining the Chiropractic Information Network-Board Action Databank (CIN-BAD), a comprehensive database of disciplinary actions taken against chiropractors.
- Offering the Passport Program, which facilitates the process for chiropractors seeking licensure in multiple jurisdictions.
- Providing continuing education opportunities for chiropractic regulators and practitioners.
Membership[edit | edit source]
Membership in the FCLB is open to all chiropractic licensing boards and regulatory authorities. The organization encourages collaboration and communication among its members to foster uniformity in chiropractic regulation.
Impact[edit | edit source]
The FCLB plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of patients seeking chiropractic care. By promoting high standards for licensure and practice, the FCLB helps to maintain the integrity of the chiropractic profession and protect the public from unqualified practitioners.
Controversies[edit | edit source]
Like many regulatory bodies, the FCLB has faced challenges and controversies, particularly regarding the scope of chiropractic practice and the regulation of chiropractic techniques. However, the organization continues to work towards balancing the interests of the profession with the need for public protection.
