Ferula assa-foetida is a species of Ferula, a genus of flowering plants in the family Apiaceae. It is native to the deserts of Iran and mountains of Afghanistan and is mainly cultivated in nearby India. The plant is also known as asafoetida, devil's dung, stinking gum, or hing.
