Flag of the Federated States of Micronesia
== Flag of the Federated States of Micronesia ==
The flag of the Federated States of Micronesia consists of a blue field with four white stars arranged in a diamond pattern. The flag was adopted on November 30, 1978, and it symbolizes the unity of the four states that make up the Federated States of Micronesia: Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae.
Design[edit | edit source]
The flag's design features a blue field that represents the Pacific Ocean, which surrounds the islands of Micronesia. The four white stars symbolize the four states of the federation. The stars are arranged in a diamond pattern, which signifies the equal status and unity of the states within the federation.
History[edit | edit source]
The Federated States of Micronesia was part of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, which was administered by the United States under a United Nations mandate after World War II. The current flag was adopted when the Federated States of Micronesia became a self-governing entity in 1979, prior to gaining full independence in 1986 under the Compact of Free Association with the United States.
