Flutoprazepam
Flutoprazepam is a benzodiazepine derivative drug. It is a potent hypnotic and sedative pharmaceutical compound that is primarily used in the treatment of severe insomnia. Flutoprazepam is known for its long-lasting sedative effects due to its long elimination half-life.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
Flutoprazepam is a benzodiazepine receptor agonist. It binds to the GABA receptors in the brain, enhancing the effects of the neurotransmitter GABA. This results in sedative, hypnotic, anxiolytic, and muscle relaxant properties.
Medical Uses[edit | edit source]
Flutoprazepam is primarily used for the treatment of severe insomnia. It may also be used for preoperative sedation and for the treatment of acute seizures.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
Common side effects of flutoprazepam include drowsiness, impaired motor function, and decreased alertness. Less common side effects may include amnesia, balance disorder, and hypotension. Long-term use of flutoprazepam can lead to physical dependence and withdrawal symptoms upon discontinuation.
Interactions[edit | edit source]
Flutoprazepam may interact with other medications, including other CNS depressants, antidepressants, and antipsychotics. These interactions can increase the sedative effects of flutoprazepam and may lead to increased risk of side effects.
