Fox Kids
Fox Kids was an American children's programming block and branding for a slate of international children's television channels. It was launched on September 8, 1990, and was broadcast on the Fox Broadcasting Company network in the United States. Fox Kids is notable for its wide array of animated series and live-action shows that became popular among children during the 1990s and early 2000s.
History[edit | edit source]
Fox Kids was created by Fox Broadcasting Company executive Margaret Loesch and Haim Saban, the founder of Saban Entertainment. The programming block initially aired on weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings, featuring a mix of animated and live-action series.
In 1996, News Corporation and Haim Saban formed a joint venture, Fox Kids Worldwide, which expanded the brand internationally. The block continued to grow in popularity, leading to the creation of the Fox Family Channel in 1998, a cable network that featured Fox Kids programming.
Programming[edit | edit source]
Fox Kids was known for its diverse lineup of shows, many of which became iconic in children's television. Some of the most popular series included:
- Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
- X-Men: The Animated Series
- Spider-Man: The Animated Series
- Batman: The Animated Series
- Animaniacs
- Tiny Toon Adventures

Decline and Rebranding[edit | edit source]
In 2001, The Walt Disney Company acquired Fox Family Worldwide, which included Fox Kids. Following the acquisition, the Fox Kids block was gradually phased out and replaced by the FoxBox, which later became 4Kids TV. The international Fox Kids channels were rebranded as Jetix in 2004, and eventually, many of these channels were rebranded again as Disney XD.

Fox Kids left a lasting impact on children's television, introducing many beloved characters and series that continue to have a fanbase today. The block is remembered for its innovative programming and its role in shaping the landscape of children's entertainment during the 1990s.
