Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP) is a blood product derived from the liquid portion of whole blood. It is used in various medical treatments, particularly when there are deficiencies in blood clotting factors or other blood proteins.

Preparation and Components[edit | edit source]

FFP is prepared by separating plasma from whole blood and then freezing it to preserve the blood clotting factors. This plasma contains important components such as:

Clotting factors
Albumin and other proteins
Electrolytes

Clinical Uses[edit | edit source]

FFP is indicated for:

Conditions with low blood clotting factors (INR > 1.5)
Low levels of certain blood proteins
As replacement fluid in plasma exchange

Compatibility and Administration[edit | edit source]

While using ABO-compatible plasma is not mandatory, it is often recommended to reduce the risk of adverse reactions.
FFP is not recommended as a volume expander.
Administration involves a slow injection into a vein, under careful medical supervision.
