Fresno is a city located in Fresno County, California, United States. It is the largest city in the Central Valley region of California and the fifth-largest city in the state. Fresno serves as an economic hub for the region, with a diverse economy that includes agriculture, manufacturing, and healthcare.

Fresno was founded in 1872 as a railway station for the Central Pacific Railroad. The city was incorporated in 1885. The name "Fresno" is derived from the Spanish word for "ash tree," which is abundant in the area.

Fresno is located near the geographical center of California, approximately 220 miles north of Los Angeles and 170 miles south of Sacramento. The city covers an area of 112.3 square miles, with a small portion of water.
