Friedrich Jacob Merck (18 February 1621 – 1678) was a prominent German pharmacist, remembered as the progenitor of the globally-recognized Merck family. He is credited with founding the world's oldest extant pharmaceutical firm, the Merck Group, in 1668. Although Friedrich Jacob Merck did not leave behind any direct heirs, the legacy of his endeavors continued under the stewardship of his nephew, Georg Friedrich Merck.
