Genitals
Genitals or genitalia are the sexual or reproductive organs that are visible on the outside of the body, also known as the external sex organs. In males, the genitals include the penis and the scrotum; in females, they include the vulva and the clitoris. The primary function of the genitals is to facilitate sexual reproduction.
Male Genitals[edit | edit source]
The male genitals consist of the penis and the scrotum. The penis is the male organ for sexual intercourse. It has three parts: the root, which attaches to the wall of the abdomen; the body, or shaft; and the glans, which is the cone-shaped end of the penis. The urethra runs through the center of the penis, allowing the passage of urine and semen.
The scrotum is a sac-like organ made of skin and muscles that houses the testes. It is located behind the penis. The scrotum's primary function is to keep the testes at an optimal temperature for sperm production.
Female Genitals[edit | edit source]
The female genitals consist of the vulva and the clitoris. The vulva is the outer part of the female genital organs. It includes the mons pubis, labia majora, labia minora, clitoris, vestibular bulbs, urinary meatus, the vaginal opening, and Bartholin's and Skene's vestibular glands.
The clitoris is a small, sensitive organ located at the top of the vulva. It is covered by a fold of skin called the clitoral hood. The clitoris is the primary source of female sexual pleasure and has more nerve endings than any other part of the human body.
Health and Hygiene[edit | edit source]
Maintaining good genital hygiene is important for both men and women to prevent infections and diseases, such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and urinary tract infections (UTIs). This includes regular washing, wearing clean underwear, and practicing safe sex.
