Go 6976 is a potent and selective protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor that is commonly used in biochemical research. It was first identified in a screen for compounds that inhibit the growth of yeast cells expressing a mammalian PKC.

Structure and Properties[edit | edit source]

Go 6976 is a indolocarbazole derivative. It is a small molecule with a molecular weight of 378.4 g/mol. It is soluble in DMSO and ethanol, but not in water.

Mechanism of Action[edit | edit source]

Go 6976 inhibits PKC by binding to the ATP-binding site of the enzyme, thereby preventing ATP from binding and the enzyme from becoming active. It is selective for the classical PKC isoforms (α, βI, βII, and γ), and does not inhibit the novel (δ, ε, η, and θ) or atypical (ζ and λ/ι) PKC isoforms.

Applications[edit | edit source]

Go 6976 has been used in a variety of research applications. It has been used to study the role of PKC in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation. It has also been used to investigate the role of PKC in various diseases, including cancer, diabetes, and neurodegenerative diseases.

As with all biochemical research compounds, Go 6976 should be handled with care. It is recommended to use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling this compound.
