Grain Belt is a brand of American lager beer that was originally introduced in 1893. The beer is currently brewed by the August Schell Brewing Company in New Ulm, Minnesota. Grain Belt is known for its distinctive flavor and has a loyal following in the Midwestern United States.

History[edit | edit source]

Grain Belt was first brewed by the Minneapolis Brewing Company, which was formed by the merger of four local breweries in 1890. The brand quickly became popular and was known for its high-quality ingredients and brewing process. In 1975, the Minneapolis Brewing Company was renamed the Grain Belt Brewery.

In 2001, the August Schell Brewing Company acquired the Grain Belt brand and began brewing the beer at their facility in New Ulm, Minnesota. The acquisition allowed the brand to continue its legacy and expand its distribution.

Varieties[edit | edit source]

Grain Belt offers several varieties of beer, including:

  • Grain Belt Premium: The flagship beer, a classic American lager with a smooth, mild flavor.
  • Grain Belt Nordeast: A nod to the Northeast Minneapolis neighborhood, this beer has a slightly sweeter taste.
  • Grain Belt Lock & Dam: A dark lager with a rich, malty flavor.

Cultural Impact[edit | edit source]

Grain Belt has a significant cultural impact in the Midwestern United States, particularly in Minnesota. The brand is often associated with local traditions and events, and its iconic logo is a common sight in the region.
