HEPN1

HEPN1 (also known as Hepatocellular Carcinoma, Down-Regulated 1) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the HEPN1 gene. The HEPN1 gene is located on the short (p) arm of chromosome 1 at position 36.11.

Function

HEPN1 is a tumor suppressor gene that is down-regulated in some types of cancer, including hepatocellular carcinoma. The protein encoded by this gene may function in the control of cell growth and cell death.

Clinical significance

Alterations in the HEPN1 gene have been associated with an increased risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma. In addition, down-regulation of HEPN1 has been observed in other types of cancer, suggesting that it may play a broader role in tumor suppression.
