HLA-Cw3 is a specific allele of the HLA-C gene, which is part of the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) system. The HLA system is a crucial component of the immune system, responsible for the regulation of the immune response in humans. HLA-Cw3 is one of the many alleles that can be found at the HLA-C locus on chromosome 6.

HLA-Cw3, like other HLA-C alleles, encodes a protein that is expressed on the surface of most nucleated cells. This protein is a class I major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecule, which presents endogenous peptides to cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs).
