Hanna Damasio is a prominent neuroscientist and neurologist known for her contributions to the understanding of brain function and structure. She is a Professor of Neuroscience and the Director of the Dornsife Cognitive Neuroscience Imaging Center at the University of Southern California.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Hanna Damasio was born in Lisbon, Portugal. She earned her medical degree from the University of Lisbon, where she also completed her residency in neurology.
Career[edit | edit source]
Hanna Damasio has made significant contributions to the field of neuroimaging and the study of brain lesions. She has developed new techniques for the analysis of brain images, which have been instrumental in advancing the understanding of brain function and its relationship to behavior.
She has authored numerous scientific papers and books, including "Lesion Analysis in Neuropsychology," which is considered a seminal work in the field. Her research has focused on the neural basis of emotions, decision-making, and social behavior.
Research and Contributions[edit | edit source]
Hanna Damasio's research has been pivotal in the development of functional neuroimaging techniques. She has used these techniques to study the neural correlates of cognitive and emotional processes. Her work has provided insights into the brain regions involved in emotion, memory, and language.
One of her notable contributions is the development of the Damasio and Damasio Brain and Language Model, which has been influential in understanding the neural basis of language processing.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Hanna Damasio is married to Antonio Damasio, a fellow neuroscientist and frequent collaborator. Together, they have conducted groundbreaking research on the neural basis of emotions and consciousness.
