Hardin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 26,062. Its county seat is Savannah. The county was founded in 1819 and named after Colonel Joseph Hardin, a Revolutionary War soldier and a legislator in North Carolina and Tennessee.
Geography[edit | edit source]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 596 square miles (1,540 km²), of which 577 square miles (1,490 km²) is land and 19 square miles (49 km²) (3.2%) is water. The county is located in the southwestern part of the state, along the border with Mississippi and Alabama.
The Tennessee River runs through the county, providing a significant natural resource and recreational opportunities. The county is also home to part of the Shiloh National Military Park, which preserves the site of the Battle of Shiloh.

As of the 2020 census, there were 26,062 people, 10,000 households, and 7,000 families residing in the county. The population density was 45 people per square mile (17/km²). The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with smaller percentages of African American, Native American, Asian, and other races.

Hardin County is served by the Hardin County School District, which includes several elementary schools, a middle school, and Hardin County High School.

- Buford Pusser, a law enforcement officer and the subject of the "Walking Tall" film series, was born in Hardin County.
