McNairy County is a county located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 25,866. The county seat and largest city is Selmer. The county was founded in 1823 and named for Judge John McNairy.

McNairy County was established on October 8, 1823, from parts of Hardin County. The county was named in honor of Judge John McNairy, a prominent figure in the early judicial system of Tennessee. The county seat was originally located in Purdy, but was moved to Selmer in 1890.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 564 square miles (1,460 km²), of which 563 square miles (1,460 km²) is land and 1.2 square miles (3.1 km²) (0.2%) is water.

As of the 2020 census, there were 25,866 people, 10,000 households, and 7,000 families residing in the county. The population density was 46 people per square mile (18/km²). The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with smaller percentages of African American, Native American, and other races.

The economy of McNairy County is diverse, with sectors including manufacturing, agriculture, and retail. The county is known for its production of timber, soybeans, and corn.
