Henry John Andrews (1871 – 22 October 1919) was a British Army officer and a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award of the British honours system awarded for gallantry in the face of the enemy to members of the British Armed Forces.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Henry John Andrews was born in 1871 in London, England. Little is known about his early life and education.

Military Career[edit | edit source]

Andrews joined the British Army and served with distinction. He was a member of the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC), a specialist corps in the British Army which provides medical services to all Army personnel and their families in war and in peace.

Victoria Cross[edit | edit source]

Henry John Andrews was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions on 22 October 1919 during the Third Anglo-Afghan War. His citation reads:

For most conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty.

Later Life and Death[edit | edit source]

Henry John Andrews continued to serve in the British Army until his death on 22 October 1919. He is buried in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Henry John Andrews is remembered for his bravery and service. His Victoria Cross is displayed at the Army Medical Services Museum in Aldershot, Hampshire, England.
