Howard Wilbert Nowell
American physician and medical researcher
Howard Wilbert Nowell (born March 15, 1945) is an American physician and medical researcher known for his contributions to the field of cardiology. He has been influential in advancing the understanding of cardiovascular diseases and has played a significant role in medical education.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Howard Wilbert Nowell was born in Chicago, Illinois. He developed an interest in medicine at a young age, inspired by his father, who was a general practitioner. Nowell attended the University of Chicago, where he earned his undergraduate degree in biology. He then pursued his medical degree at the Harvard Medical School, graduating with honors in 1970.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
After completing his medical degree, Nowell undertook a residency in internal medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He then specialized in cardiology, completing a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. During his fellowship, Nowell focused on the study of ischemic heart disease and heart failure.

Nowell's research has primarily focused on the mechanisms of heart disease and the development of new treatments. He has published extensively on topics such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, and myocardial infarction.
